Kaetsu Mountains - Kaetsusanchi

A mountain range that straddles three prefectures: Fukui, Ishikawa, and Gifu. It is also called the Kaga-Echizen Mountains and the Hakusan Mountains. Together with the Echimi Mountains south of the Kuzuryu River, it is called the Ryohaku Mountains. The altitude gradually increases from the western plateau to the east, but east of the central Mt. Dainichi, the Hakusan volcanic group covers the area, and volcanoes with altitudes of 1,600 to 1,700 meters, such as Mt. Toritate, Mt. Onaga, Mt. Akausagi, and Mt. Kyogatake, form a mountain range. It is a good place for mountain climbing and ski touring, and the skunk cabbage of Mt. Toritate and the volcanic and mudflow eruption topography of Mt. Kyogatake are particularly famous. It is a snowy area, and slash-and-burn farming was once practiced. Tani Pass in the center is an old trade route connecting Katsuyama City in Fukui Prefecture and Hakusan City in Ishikawa Prefecture, and National Route 157 runs through it. It belongs to Hakusan National Park and Okuetsu Kogen Prefectural Natural Park.

福井，石川，岐阜の3県にまたがる山地。加賀越前山地，白山山地とも呼ばれる。九頭竜川以南の越美山地と合わせて両白山地と呼ばれる。西の台地から東に漸次高度を増すが，中央の大日山より東は白山の火山群に覆われて取立山，大長山，赤兎山 (あかうさぎやま) ，経ヶ岳など標高 1600～1700mの火山が連峰をなす。登山，スキーツアーの適地で，特に取立山のミズバショウ，経ヶ岳の火山と泥流の噴出地形などは有名。積雪地帯で，かつては焼畑の出作 (でづくり) が行なわれていた。中央の谷峠は福井県の勝山市と石川県の白山市を結ぶ古くからの交易路で，国道 157号線が通っている。白山国立公園，奥越高原県立自然公園に属する。
