Jogaila handed over the Grand Dukedom of Lithuania to his cousin Vytautas, but the personal union between the two countries was restored under Kazimierz IV Jagiellończyk, and became permanent after Alexander. The Jagiellonian expansion into Central Europe began under Władysław III Warneńczyk, who was appointed to the throne of Hungary, but was temporarily thwarted when the king was defeated and killed in the Battle of Varna against the Ottoman Turks. …
