A town in Shimoina District in southern Nagano Prefecture. The Ina Mountains are to the east and the Kiso Mountains to the west. The main settlement, Moto-Oshima, is located in the Ina Basin in the center, and the Iida Line and Chuo Expressway pass through the town. Fruit cultivation, including pears and apples, is thriving. 長野県南部，下伊那郡の町。東は伊那山地，西は木曾山脈の山地で，中部の伊那盆地に主集落元大島があり飯田線，中央自動車道が通じる。ナシ，リンゴなどの果樹栽培が盛ん。精密機械，電子部品の工場もある。72.79km2。１万3676人（2010）。
