Red-rumped swallow - Red-rumped swallow

Japanese: コシアカツバメ(腰赤燕) - コシアカツバメ(英語表記)red‐rumped swallow
Red-rumped swallow - Red-rumped swallow
A passerine bird of the swallow family (illustration). It is so named because of the conspicuous rusty red color of its rump. It breeds in the temperate to tropical regions of southern Eurasia and central Africa, and those in temperate regions hibernate in the tropics. It is a summer bird that arrives in Japan from late March to late April and leaves from early September to late November, and is found as far as Hokkaido, but is rare in central Honshu and north. Its breeding range in the Tokyo metropolitan area is up to the lower reaches of the Tama River, and it rarely breeds within the Tokyo metropolitan area. A small number of them hibernate in Tenryu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
