A caretaker at home

Japanese:
A caretaker at home

These gods are said to stay in their homes and villages while the other gods gather in Izumo during Kannazuki (October in the lunar calendar). Many places consider the gods of the hearth (Kōjin), Ebisu, Daikoku, Inoko, Dosojin, and Konpira to be the guardian gods of their homes, and these generally have the character of gods of the fields and the home, and often have festivals in October of the lunar calendar. It is thought that the idea of guardian gods of their homes may have arisen after the tradition that no gods are present in Kannazuki became widespread, in order to explain the mystery of why festivals are held for some of these gods despite their absence.
