Japanese: マルハナバチ(丸花蜂) - マルハナバチ（英語表記）bumble bee

A general term for insects of the subfamily Bombinae, of the superfamily Anthosupera, family Apidae, order Hymenoptera. They are large, stocky bees covered in long hairs. They are 15 to 30 mm long. To date, 14 species are known in Japan, including the large bumblebee Bombus sapporensis , the small bumblebee B. ardens (illustration), the gray bumblebee B. senilis , and the red bumblebee B. hypnorum . With the exception of B. ignitus and B. diversus , which are commonly found in lowlands, most are mountainous.

膜翅目ハナバチ上科ミツバチ科マルハナバチ亜科Bombinaeの昆虫の総称。全身を長毛におおわれた大型のずんぐりとしたハナバチである。体長15～30mm。日本では，現在までにオオマルハナバチBombus sapporensis，コマルハナバチB.ardens（イラスト），ハイイロマルハナバチB.senilis，アカマルハナバチB.hypnorumなど14種類がしられている。低地にもごくふつうに見られるクロマルハナバチB. ignitusやトラマルハナバチB.diversusなどを除いて，多くは山地性が強い。
