Uwa [town] - Wow

Japanese: 宇和[町] - うわ

An old town in Higashiuwa District, southwestern Ehime Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, with the main settlement in the Uwa Basin and the Yosan Line passing through it. In addition to cultivating rice, wheat, and milk vetch, the town produces shiitake mushrooms and vegetables, and is also home to thriving dairy cows and pig farming. Hokezu Pass, located south of the town, is a scenic spot overlooking the Uwa Sea. In April 2004, it merged with Sanbe Town, Nishiuwa District, and Akehama Town, Nomura Town, and Shirokawa Town, Higashiuwa District, to form Seiyo City. Area: ^{132.53 km2} . Population: 18,008 (2003).

愛媛県南西部，東宇和郡の旧町。大部分山地で，宇和盆地に主集落があり，予讃線が通じる。米・麦・レンゲ栽培のほか，シイタケ，野菜を産し，乳牛飼育，養豚が盛ん。町の南にある法華津(ほけづ)峠は宇和海を望む景勝地。2004年４月西宇和郡三瓶町，東宇和郡明浜町，野村町，城川町と合併し，西予市となる。132.53km²。１万8008人（2003）。
