A type of calligraphy that refers to continuous writing of Chinese characters such as semi-cursive and cursive scripts and kana. It also refers to something that has been transcribed using this style. In China, where characters were invented before Japan, the formal style of writing for official documents and the like changed from seal script to clerical script to regular script, and in practical terms, the development of semi-cursive and cursive scripts made transcribing more efficient, but the spread of continuous writing made it even more effective.
