...The Puteaux School continued its wave of demonstrations, beginning with a large-scale group exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants in 1911, and in particular the Section d'or (Golden Section) exhibition in 1912, which attracted most of the painters and sculptors who sympathized with this plastic movement, with the exception of its founders, Picasso and Braque. The main exhibitors were the Billon brothers (J. Billon, sculptor Raymond Duchamp-Villon (1876-1918), and Marcel Duchamp), Albert Gleizes (1881-1953), Jean Metzinger (1883-1957), Picabia, Roger de La Fresnay (1885-1925), Léger, Laurencin, Louis Marcoussis (1878-1941, real name Ludwig Markus), Gris of the "Washing Boat" group, and the sculptor André Lhote (1885-1962).

…Although he left behind only a few works and numerous notes, his ideas and way of life led him to reject conventional notions of art, and he had a major influence on modern art, especially after the Second World War. In 1904, he went to Paris and participated in the Cubist movement known as Section d'Or, which included his elder brother Jacques Villon (1875-1963) and his younger brother Raymond Duchamp-Villon (1876-1918). However, starting with Nude Descending a Staircase No. 2 (1912), he began to paint unique works that captured the body as an erotic mechanical movement, and after producing several masterpieces in rapid succession in the same year, he gave up painting. He believed that modern painting had become detached from ideas and concepts and had fallen into the "retinal" enjoyment of mere viewing, and his Bride (1912), which depicted the female body as a strange mechanical device, was almost his last oil painting. …

…数少ない作品とおびただしいメモを残したが，その思想と生き方によって，既成の芸術概念を否定し，とくに第2次大戦後の現代美術に大きな影響を与えた。1904年パリに赴き，長兄ジャック･ビヨンJacques Villon(1875‐1963)，次兄レーモン･デュシャン･ビヨンRaymond Duchamp‐Villon(1876‐1918)らの〈セクション･ドールSection d’Or〉というキュビスム運動に参加するが，《階段を下りる裸体No.2》(1912)あたりから，肉体をエロス的機械の運動としてとらえる特異な作品を描きはじめ，同年いくつかの名作をやつぎばやに描いた後，絵を描くことを放棄。近代絵画が思想や観念と切り離されて，ただ見るだけの〈網膜的〉楽しみに堕したと考えたからで，女の肉体を奇妙な機械装置として描いた《花嫁》(1912)がほとんど最後の油絵となった。…
