Glass artist. Born in Gifu Prefecture. After graduating from Tokyo Higher Technical School, he joined the South Manchuria Railway Ceramics Research Institute in 1920 (Taisho 9), where he quickly got involved in glass craft. In 1927 (Showa 2), he left the institute to study crystal glass at the Stuttgart School of Arts and Crafts in Germany, where he mastered decorative techniques such as cut glass. He attracted public attention when he exhibited his "Cut Glass Vase" at the 12th Teiten Exhibition in 1931, and thereafter consistently worked to foster the beauty of crystal transparent glass, becoming a key figure in establishing the modern glass craft genre. At the same time, he opened the Kagami Crystal Factory and worked hard to train his successors, for which he was awarded the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1960 (Showa 35).
