Year of death: May 27, 1615 (June 23, 1615) Year of birth: Tenbun 14 (1545) A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. Commonly known as Niemon. There are two theories about his birthplace: Masuda Village, Nakajima County, Owari Province, and Masuda District, Azai County, Omi Province. He served Hideyoshi, and initially received 200 koku, which was increased to 20,000 koku for his military achievements in the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute in 1584, and the following year he was appointed to the rank of Uemon-no-jo and Junior Fifth Rank. Like Ishida Mitsunari and others, he was more skilled in domestic affairs than in military affairs, and served as a land survey magistrate. During the Bunroku Invasion, he traveled to Korea, where he took control of administrative and military affairs, and in 1595, after the death of Toyotomi (Hashiba) Hideyasu, he was given Yamato Koriyama Castle, which had been Toyotomi Hideyasu's residence, and was given a fief of 200,000 koku. At this time, he was said to have been appointed to the rank of Chamberlain and Junior Fourth Rank. In 1598, he became one of the five magistrates along with Ishida Mitsunari and others, and played a central role in assisting Hideyori after Hideyoshi's death. In the Battle of Sekigahara in 1592, he belonged to the Western Army and served as a caretaker of Osaka Castle with 3,000 soldiers. He also sent his vassal Takada Kozaemon to Sekigahara with soldiers, but at the same time, he appeared to be an ally of both the East and the West, reporting the situation inside Osaka Castle to Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was on the Eastern Army. In fact, Takada Kozaemon did not actually take part in the actual battle at Sekigahara. After the battle, Nagamori sent a messenger to Ieyasu to ask for his surrender, but Ieyasu did not allow it, confiscated his land, and exiled him to Mount Koya. He was later entrusted to Takachika Kiyonaga, lord of Musashi Iwatsuki Castle, but in 1615, during the Summer Siege of Osaka, he found out that Komoritsugu was on the Osaka side, and was forced to commit suicide.
