The heyday of the empire was under the rule of al-Ḥārith b. Jabala (Greek name Aretas, r. 529-569), who served in two of Justinian II's Persian campaigns, and in 554 defeated the Lakhmids near Kinnasurin, for which he was awarded the titles of patrician and philarch.
