...The bitter components are gentiopicrin, erythrocentaurin, swertiamarin, and amarogentin. Many species have beautiful flowers, and many are cultivated for decorative purposes, such as G. acaulis L., G. japonica, G. exocarpus, and Eustoma. A yellow dye can be obtained from the seeds of Blackstonia perfoliata (L.) Huds., which is native to Europe.
