A transliteration of the Sanskrit Ucchuṣma, originally referring to the fire god Agni in India. Also written as Ussema, it is also called the Impure Vajra, the Fire-Head Vajra, the Impure (Traced) Vajra, the Unearthed Vajra, and the Touched Vajra. The main faith of this Myo-o with the miraculous power of burning away all impurity and evil is that of a deity who cleanses the dirt of corpses, the place where women give birth, and animal blood, and in Shingon and Zen Buddhism, he is often worshiped as the guardian deity of the toilet, or Tosu. In Esoteric Buddhism, he is also called the Ukusama Henjiyō-nshi (the Law of Changing into a Man), and was believed by the aristocracy as a secret method of changing a girl in the womb into a boy before birth.
