Abandoning a corpse, bones, hair, or items placed in a coffin is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years (Article 190 of the Penal Code). Damaging a corpse is considered a crime of mutilating a corpse. This crime is generally understood to be a type of crime against social legal interests, as it violates religious customs and practices. This crime is usually committed by moving the location of the corpse, but it can also be committed by omission, such as leaving the corpse as it is, by a person who is legally obligated to bury it. For example, according to legal precedent, if a person leaves the corpse of one's wife or child in a closet and walks away, this crime is committed by omission, but since a murderer does not have the aforementioned obligation to bury, if he or she simply leaves the corpse at the scene after the murder and walks away, this crime is not committed. If the corpse is moved and abandoned in another place after the murder, this crime is committed.
