A swamp located in the northwest of Ryugasaki City in southern Ibaraki Prefecture. It has a circumference of 25.5 km, an area of 3.49 square km, and a maximum depth of 3 meters. It was formed when the lower reaches of the East and West Yata Rivers were dammed by sediment from the Kokai River. It was also called Ota Numa. It is a scenic spot with an abundance of fish, and along National Route 6, which runs along the lake shore, there are restaurants and drive-ins, attracting anglers and tourists. Whooper swans have also been seen migrating. A disaster prevention floodgate has been installed at the southern exit. In Ushiku City on the east bank, there is the Ogawa Usen Memorial Museum, a memorial to painter, and the house where writer Sumii Sue lived.
