Ushikubi Tsumugi

Japanese:
Ushikubi Tsumugi
A type of silk fabric. Formerly known as Hakusan Tsumugi. Named after the area where it was produced in Ushiku, Shiramine Village, at the foot of Mt. Hakusan in Ishikawa Prefecture. Currently, it is produced in Shiramine Village and Tsurugi Town. The soil is so strong that even if it is caught on a nail, the nail can be pulled out, so it is also called Kuginuki Tsumugi. It is woven narrowly using neri-dama thread for the warp and neri-noshi thread for the weft. It is used for feather scales, kimono scales, fukusa, neckties, etc., and is mainly white, but stripes and kasuri patterns are also available, and in recent years tsumugi crepe has also been produced.
