This song was used as the melody for the scene in the Kabuki play "Oakinai Hirugakojima " (first performed at the Edo Nakamuraza in November 1784 ), in which Ito Sukechika's daughter Tatsuhime gives up her love for Yoritomo to Hojo's daughter Masako, and after taking them upstairs, she combs her own hair and her heart burns with jealousy. The lyrics express the helpless feelings of a woman sleeping alone. The first performance was Nagauta with music by Kineya Sakichi. It has also been incorporated into Jiuta. [2] A novel. Written by Chikamatsu Akio. Published in 1924 ( Taisho 13 ). A representative literary love story that depicts the obsessive love of a man who sends money to a prostitute from his difficult life. [Glossary] (1) In the “Manyoshu,” there are expressions such as “black hair mixed with gray hair” (563) and “until the black hair turns white” (1411), which show the passage of time, as in the case of the poem in the example above, where gray hair is mixed with black hair and one has grown old. There is also a type of expression that sensually depicts the figure of a woman lying down with her hair combed down, waiting for a man, as in the example poem in ①.
(2) In Heian waka poetry, while the youth and beauty of black hair are latent, the form of singing about the passage of time changes to an expression heavily influenced by Chinese poetry, likening white hair to snow or a waterfall and singing about the present in old age, as in "Mubatama no waga kurokami ya karuraramu kaga kaga ni o kakeru shigeru snow (Ki no Tsurayuki)" (Kokinshu - Monona). The form in which a man fantasizes about a woman's hair and falls in love with her changes to a form in which a woman's love gushes forth at the feeling of her lover's touch remaining in her hair, as in "When I lie down unaware of my disheveled black hair, I long for the person who first brushed it back (Izumi Shikibu)" (Goshui - Ren San).

[1] 〘名〙① 色黒くつやのある髪。また、髪の美称。※万葉（８Ｃ後）二〇・四三三一「ぬばたまの久路加美(クロカミ)敷きて長き日(け)を待ちかも恋ひむ愛(はし)き妻らは」② 喝食鬘(かっしきかずら)のこと。※申楽談儀（1430）序「大男にていられしが〈略〉自然居士などに、くろかみ着、高座に直られし、十二三斗に見ゆ」[2][一] 長唄・地唄。歌舞伎「大商蛭小島(おおあきないひるがこじま)」（天明四年一一月江戸中村座初演）で、伊東祐親(すけちか)の娘辰姫が、頼朝への恋を北条の娘政子へ譲って、二人を二階へ上げたあと、自分の髪をすきながら、嫉妬に胸をこがすという場面のめりやすに使われた。歌詞は、独り寝の女の、やるせない心をうったえたもの。初演は長唄で杵屋佐吉の作曲。地唄にも取り入れられた。[二] 小説。近松秋江作。大正一三年（一九二四）刊。苦しい生活の中から遊女に仕送りする男の愛執の情を描いた代表的情話文学。[語誌](1)「万葉集」では「黒髪に白髪交り」（五六三）「黒髪の白くなるまで」（一四一一）など、黒髪に白髪を配して年老いたという、時の経過を表わす表現と、①の挙例の歌のように髪を梳き下げ男を待って横たわる女の姿を官能的に表出する表現の型がある。
(2)平安和歌では黒髪の若さと美しさとを潜在させながら、時の経過を歌う型は、「むばたまの我がくろかみや変るらむ鏡の影に降れる白雪〈紀貫之〉」〔古今‐物名〕のように白髪を雪や滝に見立てて老年の現在を歌う漢詩の影響の色濃い表現に変化し、男が女の髪を幻視して恋う型は、「黒髪の乱れて知らずうちふせばまづ掻きやりし人ぞ恋しき〈和泉式部〉」〔後拾遺‐恋三〕のように、女が自分の髪に残る恋人の感触に恋情をほとばしらせる型に変容し、定型化する。
