Born: July 20, 1889, Hildesheim Died: May 11, 1966. A filmmaker who built the golden age of German silent films and the early talkies in Hollywood. He was the head of production at UFA. He nurtured Murnau and Lang, and after the advent of talkies, he worked on films such as The Congress (1931). He was persecuted by the Nazis because he was Jewish, but after World War II, he worked to revive German films.
