Kai's Black Horse

Japanese: 甲斐の黒駒 - かいのくろこま

A fine black horse produced in Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture). In ancient times, Kai Province had three imperial pastures, Kashizaki , Makino , and Hosaka, which are said to have produced fine horses for the Imperial Court. It is said that Prince Shotoku's favorite horse was this horse, and there is a legend that the prince rode this horse up Mount Fuji, making it a popular subject for paintings. *The Chronicles (720), September, 13th year of Yūryaku, folk song: "If the Nubatama Kahinokurokoma were to put on the saddle, his life would die Kahinokurokoma. "

甲斐国（山梨県）から産出した、黒毛の良馬。上代、甲斐国には、柏前(かしざき)、真衣野(まきの)、穂坂(ほさか)の三つの御牧があり、宮廷用の良馬を産したという。特に聖徳太子の愛馬もこの馬であるとされ、太子がこの馬で富士山に登ったという伝説があり、画題とされる。※書紀（720）雄略一三年九月・歌謡「ぬば玉の柯彼能矩盧古磨(カヒノクロコマ) 鞍着せば命死なまし柯彼能倶盧古磨(カヒノクロコマ)」
