Also called stolon, stolon, or running branch. A special stem that emerges from a stem node close to the ground and runs horizontally on the surface or underground. Those that crawl underground are called rhizomes (bracken). Many have only scaly leaves and no normal leaves, and reproduce by producing new shoots at the tips. 匍匐枝,ストロン,走行枝とも。地ぎわに近い茎節から出る特別な茎で,地表あるいは地中を横走する。地中をはうものは根茎と呼ばれる(ワラビ)。多くは鱗片葉のみで普通葉を欠き,先端に子株を生じて繁殖。子株からさらに匍匐茎を出して広くはびこるものが多い(ユキノシタ,オランダイチゴなど)。
