Horado [village] - Horado

Japanese: 洞戸[村] - ほらど

A village in Mugi County, central Gifu Prefecture. Population 2,444 (1995). The Itadori River, a tributary of the Nagara River, flows south through the center of the town, and apart from alluvial lowlands along the river, the Mino-Echizen Mountains, with Mount Takaga (1,224m) as its main peak, make up most of the area. Charcoal and washi paper production was once thriving here. Agriculture and forestry are small-scale, with kiwifruit being cultivated and processed, but many people commute to a valve factory in Miyama Town to the west. Other industries include furniture manufacturing and sewing. The population has declined significantly, and the area has been designated a depopulated area. The Takaga Valley area is included in Oku-Nagara River Prefectural Natural Park.

岐阜県中部，武儀郡の村。人口2444(1995)。中央部を長良川の支流板取川が南流し，川沿いに沖積低地があるほかは，高賀山(1224m)を主峰とする美濃越前山地が大部分を占める。かつては木炭と和紙の生産が盛んであった。農林業は零細でキウィフルーツの栽培，加工が行われるが，西隣の美山町のバルブ工場への通勤者も多い。ほかに家具製造業，縫製業が行われる。人口の減少が著しく，過疎地域の指定を受けている。高賀渓谷一帯は奥長良川県立自然公園に含まれる。
