A heating method that utilizes the principle of heat generation as an electrical phenomenon. It is also called electric heat for short. It has the following characteristics: heat can be generated not only from the outside but also from inside the object to be heated; it can heat uniformly or locally depending on the purpose, and it can also heat in a vacuum or high-pressure gas; it is easy to control the temperature; there is no exhaust gas or ash that is generated by combustion heating; and it can reach high temperatures of over 2000°C. In terms of applications, it is widely used in industry for electric steelmaking of special steel and ordinary steel, steel hardening, melting of iron for casting, drying of paint, and the manufacture of germanium and silicon crystals for transistors, while for general households it can be found in electric stoves, sheathed heaters, microwave ovens, etc. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
