Civil law scholar. Born in Tokyo. Son of Chin Shige. Graduated from the Faculty of Law, Tokyo Imperial University in 1908 (Meiji 41). Became a lecturer there the same year, and an assistant professor there in 1910. In 1919 (Taisho 1), he studied in Germany, France, and the UK to study civil law and jurisprudence. Returning to Japan in 1924, he became a professor in the same year, and taught civil law and jurisprudence courses. He has written many books and papers, but he has made many achievements in the area of civil law's personal status law, which had a great influence on the study of personal status law in the future. After retiring in 1943 (Showa 18), he became a member of the House of Peers in 1944, and a Supreme Court judge in 1949 (Showa 24). His many books include "Civil Law Reader" (1927), "Family Law" (1930), "Divorce Letters and Divorce Temples" (1942), "Inheritance Law" (1946-1947), and "New Civil Law Reader" (1948).
