Izumo Bushi

Japanese: 出雲節 - いずもぶし

〘Noun〙 A folk song that originated in Izumo Province (Shimane Prefecture). It first arose in Yasugi, Izumo Province, around the Kaei and Ansei eras ( 1848-60 ), and spread via sea routes to the Japan Sea coast and Kyushu region. It is the source of Izumozaki-bushi, Sendai-bushi, Hakata-bushi, and Yasugi-bushi . The song begins with "In the rain comes a message, in the wind a message," followed by lines of a wish, and the accompaniment words "Outside is Donchan, inside is Secret."

〘名〙出雲国（島根県）に発生した民謡。初め、嘉永、安政（一八四八‐六〇）の頃、出雲国安来(やすき)で起こり、海路を経て、日本海沿岸および九州地方にも及んだ。出雲崎節、仙台節、博多節、安来節(やすきぶし)の源流をなしている。「雨ではことづけ、風では便り」と唄い出し、願をかける文句のあと、「表はドンチャン、裏からコッソリ」の囃子詞(はやしことば)がつく。
