Founded in 1917 by Nakajima Chikuhei, it was Japan's first private aircraft company. With strong protection from the military, it grew rapidly after the Second Sino-Japanese War. It acquired many subcontractors and other companies as subsidiaries, forming a machinery industry conglomerate. In 1945, it was nationalized as the First Munitions Arsenal of the Ministry of Munitions, and was returned after Japan's defeat in the war and renamed Fuji Industries, but was split into 12 companies following an order to disband the zaibatsu. Fuji Heavy Industries was later formed by a merger of five of these companies. Well-known models developed by Nakajima Aircraft include the fighter Hayabusa and the engine Sakae (fitted on Zero Fighters, etc.). →Related items Hideo Itokawa Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
