Yu Zhimo (English spelling)

Japanese: 禹之謨 - うしぼ（英語表記）Yǔ Zhī mó

1866‐1907
A revolutionary Chinese businessman. His courtesy name was Jiting. He was from Xiangxiang County, Hunan Province, and a friend of Tan Sitong. He studied applied chemistry and crafts in Japan, and returned to China to run a towel factory in Changsha. He became chairman of the Hunan Chamber of Commerce and the Education Association, and led the movement to recover concessions and the anti-tax struggle. He joined the China Revolutionary Alliance, and was arrested by the authorities for holding Chen Tianhua's funeral, and was eventually executed. He is regarded as a representative figure who played a role as a hub for promoting business, educating workers, the people's movement, and revolutionary organizations. [Kubota Bunji]
