This is called active metabolism or active metabolic value, and is written as Ea. There is a concept of active metabolism as opposed to resting metabolism, and the amount of energy when active is expressed as a multiple of the basal metabolic rate. This value is called the active metabolic value, and written as Ea. The 6th revised nutritional requirements for Japanese people adopts movement intensity (Af), and the accumulated amount multiplied by time for one day is expressed as the energy requirement, also expressed as a multiple of the basal metabolic rate, but it has been decided to include the portion equivalent to specific dynamic actions, which was previously calculated separately.

活動代謝，活動代謝値とよばれEaと書く．安静時代謝に対して活動代謝という概念があり，活動している場合のエネルギー量を基礎代謝量の倍数で表した．この値を活動代謝値とよび，Eaと記した．第六次改定日本人の栄養所要量では，動作強度（Af）が採用され，その値に時間をかけたものを1日分集積した量をエネルギー所要量としてやはり基礎代謝の倍数で表示されているが，従来別に算出されていた特異動的作用に相当する部分を含めることにした．
