A glass-like transparent plate made of synthetic resin. Those made from polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl chloride, celluloid, etc. are transparent, while those made from urea resin, melamine resin, etc. are translucent. They are soft and the surface is easily scratched, and they are weak against chemicals and heat, but they have the advantages of a low specific gravity, being easy to mold and not easily broken, and transparent ones have a good refractive index, so they are widely used in lighting fixtures, optical lenses, etc.

合成樹脂でできたガラス様の透明板。ポリメタクリル酸メチル，ポリ塩化ビニルやセルロイドなどからつくったものは透明で，尿素樹脂，メラミン樹脂などのものは半透明。軟らかく表面が傷つきやすく，化学薬品や熱に対しては弱いが，比重が小さく，成形が容易で割れにくく，透明なものは光の屈折率もよいなどの利点があるため，照明用具，光学レンズなどに多用されている。
