Stereolepis gigas (English spelling)

...It is distributed throughout Japan and along the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula, and is common in central and northern Honshu, especially Hokkaido. It was previously treated as one species, but in recent years it has been divided into two species, Stereolepis gigas (Ishinagi) and S. doederleini . The former is over 2m in total length, and all local names, such as Oyo in Akita, Ooio in Toyama, and Oona in various places, are due to the large size of this species.
