This is one of the ten districts of Kawaguchi Manor in the territory of Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara, and is in the area of Awara City, Fukui Prefecture today. According to the "Kawaguchi Manor Fields and Lands Invoice" of 1287, the total number of fields in Hosoroki-go was 227 cho 3 tan, and the annual tax of 538 koku was collected directly by the magistrate, with silk and cotton also being the burden. There were nine districts for which the head of the fields (Tato) was responsible for the annual tax, and the manor officials included the Mandokoro, Kumon, Betsuto, and Sento. In 1414, the local samurai Horie clan was appointed as the Mandokoro and Kumon. After the Onin War and Bunmei War, the Asakura clan took over, but even during the Eiroku period (1558-1570), the final period of the Asakura clan's domain system, Kofuku-ji Temple continued to collect the main tax, soldier's tax, and miscellaneous tax from the district. It was a key transportation point to Kaga Province, and a checkpoint was already established there during the Muromachi period. During the Edo period, it was called Hosoroki Village, and was a post station on the Hokuriku Kaido road, with a checkpoint established there as well. The site of Hosoroki Mansion, where the Horie (Hosoroki) clan lived, is now here. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
