Prince Takehito

Imperial family and military man of the Meiji period. Born in Kyoto. The fourth son of Prince Arisugawa Takahito. His mother was Mori Noriko, a lady-in-waiting. In August 1878, he was proclaimed Prince and heir to the throne as his elder brother, Prince Taruhito. In July 1874, he entered the Naval Academy by order of Emperor Meiji. In 1881, he studied at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, England. During the Sino-Japanese War, he served as Captain of the Matsushima. After serving as commander of the standing fleet, he was promoted to Admiral in 1902. In March 1906, he was appointed Togu no Hitoyu, and later became Togu no Aide, where he was mainly involved in guiding the Crown Prince to recover his health until June 1901. His death was officially announced on July 10, and during this time he was promoted to Fleet Admiral. His heir, Prince Sainio, died young, and the Arisugawa family line came to an end. <References> Takamatsu Prince's version of "Imperial Prince Takehito Yukijitsu"

明治時代の皇族,軍人。京都生まれ。有栖川宮幟仁親王の第4王子。母は家女房森則子。明治11(1878)年8月兄熾仁親王の継嗣として親王宣下を受ける。7年7月明治天皇の命により海軍兵学寮に入学。14年英国グリニッジ海軍大学校に留学。日清戦争には松島艦長として出軍。常備艦隊司令官などを務めたあと,37年大将に進んだ。また31年3月東宮賓友を命ぜられ,のち東宮輔導となり,36年6月まで皇太子の健康回復を中心とする教導に当たった。死去が公式に発表されたのは7月10日で,この間に元帥に叙せられた。なお嗣子栽仁王は早世しており,有栖川宮家は断絶した。<参考文献>高松宮蔵版『威仁親王行実』
