1907‐ Iranian writer. After studying in Germany (1922), he joined an Iranian Marxist group and was imprisoned for four years until the Allied occupation of Iran (1941). After his release, he participated in the formation of the Zudeh Party. After Mossadegh's downfall, he moved to East Germany and continued his academic activities, including literary studies, at Humboldt University. He is a typical intellectual writer who was exiled due to political pressure from the Pahlavi monarchy. In addition to his debut work, The Suitcase (1934), Prison Notebooks (1941), and Her Eyes (1952), he also wrote A History of Persian Literature.
