Hosokawa Yoriharu - Hosokawa Yoriharu

Japanese: 細川頼春 - ほそかわよりはる
Hosokawa Yoriharu - Hosokawa Yoriharu

A military commander during the Northern and Southern Court period. The second son of Hosokawa Kinyori. Commonly known as Genkuro. He served as Sanuki no Kami and Gyobu no Taifu (Minister of Justice). He followed Ashikaga Takauji from the Genko Incident, and became a treasurer in the Kenmu government. When Takauji fled to Kyushu in 1336 (Kenmu 3), he was sent to Shikoku with his brother Kazuuji to gather forces and play a major role in Takauji's recapture of Kyoto. After the establishment of the shogunate, he played an active role in attacking the Southern Court army in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions as the guardian of Awa and Bingo. During the Kanno Disturbance, he fought against Ashikaga Tadayoshi's side around Kyoto on Takauji's side, and assisted Ashikaga Yoshiakira in defending Kyoto during Takauji's visit to Kamakura. On February 20, 1352 (Shohei 7), he was killed in battle near Shichijo-Omiya while defending Kyoto against an attack by the Southern Court army. As a skilled archer, he was awarded imperial clothing by Emperor Godaigo, and was also an accomplished poet, whose poems were included in imperial anthologies such as the "Fuga Wakashu."
