Ganzhou - Kanshu

Japanese: 贛州 - かんしゅう

A city in the southern part of Jiangxi Province, China. Population: 400,000 (1994). Became a city in 1949. Gan County is a separate entity in Meilin Town to the east of the city. It is located in the basin where the Zhang and Gong rivers join, upstream of the Gan River, a tributary of the Yangtze River (the character Gan itself is a combination of the characters Zhang and Gong). It is at a strategic point on the route connecting the Yangtze River basin with the south, and its importance has been recognized since the Warring States period. This character did not change even after the prefecture was established in the Han dynasty, and it was one of the key areas that controlled trends in Jiangxi. Although it no longer has the same prosperity as it once did, it is a distribution center for grains, mandarin oranges, bamboo products, and other products produced in the surrounding area, and is a highly central city.

中国，江西省南部の都市。人口40万(1994)。1949年市となる。贛県は市の東の梅林鎮に別に置かれる。長江(揚子江)の支流である贛江の上流，章水と貢水の合流する盆地に位置する(贛という文字自体，章と貢の合一したもの)。長江流域と南方を結ぶルートの要衝にあり，古く戦国時代からその存在の重要さが認められていた。漢代に県が置かれてからもこの性格は変わらず，江西の動向を制する重鎮の一つであった。現在は往時の繁栄は見られないが，周辺に産する穀類やミカン，竹製品などの集散地であり，中心性の高い都市である。
