1892‐1971 Argentine painter. Initially, he aimed to be a caricaturist. In 1913, he received a scholarship to study in Italy, where he learned fresco painting and also came into contact with Futurist painters. In 1923, he formed friendships with Cubists such as Picasso and J. Gris in Paris, and returned to Argentina in 1924. He brought back the first abstract paintings to Argentina, and became a central figure in the contemporary art movement there. His abstract paintings, which combined futurist movements with Cubist-style compositions, were the most avant-garde works in Argentina at the time, and created a buzz.
