Dates of birth and death unknown. A Muslim from the Western Regions who served as the Chief Minister of Quanzhou for 30 years at the end of the Southern Song Dynasty in China. He moved to Quanzhou from Guangzhou when his father Pu Kaizong was born. Together with his older brother Pu Shousei, he cooperated with the authorities and became the Chief Minister around 1245-46 for their achievements in repelling pirates that attacked Quanzhou. As the Chief Minister of the Bureau of Trade, which was responsible for taxation, public purchases, and control of trade in the South Seas, he received great perks from the position. Bureau of Trade officials entrusted their personal assets to their agents, who engaged in trade aboard South Seas trading ships, and collaborated widely in sharing the profits at a fixed rate. The Pu brothers accumulated wealth through these public and private profits and formed a local power. The Southern Song Dynasty, which was trying to recover its position in Fujian, and the Yuan Dynasty, which was trying to pacify the Southeast, both looked to the Pu brothers for help, but Pu Shougeng sided with the latter and contributed to the Yuan Dynasty's conquest. He also sent envoys to the South China Sea countries on the orders of Kublai Khan (reigned 1260-1294) to encourage them to pay tribute, achieving some success.
