A Russian children's author. His real name was Gorkov. Born in Ligov, he joined the Red Army at the age of 14 and participated in the Russian Revolution. When World War II broke out, he joined the army as a journalist and was killed in action in Ukraine. His works are permeated with revolutionary and patriotic ideas, and include his autobiographical story "The School" (1930), "Distant Countries" (1932), "Chuks and Geks" (1939), and "Timur and His Regiments" (1940), which vividly depicts young boys helping the homes of soldiers who have gone to war and the families of those killed in battle. They are still widely read and loved today.
