な‐だい【名代】

〘名〙① 標示する名。名目としてかかげる名。名義。※浮世草子・色里三所世帯(1688)中「大坂に世帯持といふは太鞁を名(ナ)代にして内証は我まましてのたのしみ」② (形動) 名に伴う評判。また、名高いことやそのさま。著名。高名。なうて。そうした品物や店をもいう。※浮世草子・好色二代男(1684)八「男も名代(ナダイ)の者は、たとへ恋はすがるとてもせぬ事ぞかし」③ 江戸時代の興行で、奉行所から許可を得た興行権の所有者。江戸では、劇場主・興行責任者と一致したのでこの名称は用いられず、京坂地方でもっぱら使われた。※談義本・根無草(1763‐69)前「太夫元の名代もつぶれける」④ 江戸時代、大坂で、各藩の蔵屋敷の名義上の持ち主をいう。当時は、松山・津の両藩のほかは、大坂三郷内に屋敷を持つことが許可されていなかったので、商人から借家をして蔵屋敷とし、蔵役人を置いた。その蔵役人を代表する名義人を名代といった。※御触帳‐宝暦五年(1755)一二月二三日「名代用聞廻船并荷物所持之者、名前書付可指出之事」
