Yasutsune Takashina

Japanese:
Yasutsune Takashina
Year of death: 1.11.23 (1201.12.20)
Year of birth: 1130
A nobleman from the end of the Heian period to the beginning of the Kamakura period. A trusted vassal of Emperor Goshirakawa. Son of Takashina Yasushige, the governor of Wakasa. His mother was the daughter of Fujiwara Munekane, the deputy chief minister of Shuri. In 1151, he became a treasurer, and after serving as Saemon no Shoi, Kawachi, Dewa, and Settsu no Kami, he was promoted to Shonagon in 1166. He also served as Iyo no Kami and Okurakyo, and was promoted to the rank of Junior Third Rank in 1183. According to Kujo Kanezane's Gyokuyo, he was "the most trusted vassal of the retired emperor," and the favor he received from Emperor Goshirakawa and the influence he wielded were comparable to those of Tango no Tsubone (Takashina Eiko). However, in December 1185, during the rebellion of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Yukiie, he served as an intermediary to the retired emperor along with his son Tsunenaka, which incurred the wrath of Yoritomo, and both father and son were dismissed from their posts as central figures in the conspiracy, and Yasutsune was exiled to Izu Province. He was allowed to enter the service four years later, in the fifth year of the Bun'ei era. In the second year of the Kenkyu era (1191), he was awarded the third rank and became a monk in the eighth year of the same year.
