Also known as a manned satellite. An artificial satellite that humans can ride on. Can be recovered from the ground. The former Soviet Union's Vostok 1 (1961) was the world's first manned satellite. The United States was the first to launch a manned ballistic flight (human rocket) and manned satellite (Mercury 6, 1962) in Project Mercury.
