Wood Rose (English spelling)

Wood Rose (English spelling)
A perennial vine of the Convolvulaceae family. The vine can reach up to 30m in length, is semi-woody, and has palmate, 5-7 deeply lobed leaves that grow alternately. One to several funnel-shaped, gamopetalous, yellow flowers grow at the base of the leaves early in the morning and wilt within a few hours. After flowering, the sepals continue to grow while still encasing the fruit, then dry out, become woody, and spread in all directions, resembling roses, hence the name wood rose. Wood roses are often used as dried flowers, and are actively cultivated in Hawaii as tourist souvenirs.
