Protectorate - protectorate

Protectorate - protectorate
A territory under the protection of a particular nation, which is protected by the suzerain in the event of external attack, but in return is subject to control over diplomatic relations. In modern times, this method has often been used by European nations when governing colonies or underdeveloped countries, and the suzerain's power may extend to domestic affairs as well. An example of this is Japan-Korea relations from 1905 to 1910, and a typical example is Egypt, which was a protectorate of the United Kingdom from 1914 to 1922.
