Glossopteris

Japanese: グロッソプテリス

A fossil gymnosperm that flourished from the Permian to Triassic periods. It has large, tongue-shaped, simple leaves with reticulate veins. Its distribution was limited to the Southern Hemisphere, including Africa, South America, and Australia. Other plants in the Southern Hemisphere at that time included Gangamopteris and Schizoneura, and because they are very different from the Angara flora of the Northern Hemisphere, they are grouped together as the Gondwana flora.

ペルム紀から三畳紀に栄えた化石裸子植物。大型の舌状の単葉で，網目状の葉脈を示す。分布はアフリカ，南米，オーストラリアなど，ほぼ南半球に限られる。当時の南半球の植物群には，このほかガンガモプテリス，シゾニューラなどがあり，北半球のアンガラ植物群などとは大いに異なるので，ゴンドワナ植物群としてまとめられる。
