…In his youth, he served Emperor Xuanzong as a guard officer, but after the An Lushan Rebellion, he devoted himself to reading during his wandering life. He became the governor of Suzhou (Jiangsu Province) and was called Wei Suzhou. He wrote some excellent poems reminiscing about his youth, but his true talents are in works expressing the sentiments of leisure, and he belongs to the lineage of pastoral and mountain forest poets, succeeding Wang Wei and Meng Haoran. …
