Pogodin, Mikhail Petrovich
Born: November 23, 1800, Moscow
[Died] December 20, 1875. Moscow Russian historian, critic, and journalist. Born to a serf, he graduated from Moscow University in 1821. He was a professor of history at Moscow University from 1826 to 1844. He published Moskovskii vestnik (Moscow Bulletin) from 1827 to 1830 and Moskvityanin (Moscow Man) from 1841 to 1856. He debated with VG Belinsky and others from a Slavic and nationalistic standpoint. In the field of history he published Issledovaniya, zamechaniya i lektsii o russkoi istorii (Studies, Commentaries and Lectures on Russian History) (7 volumes, 1846-57).

Pogodin, Nikolai Fëdorovich

Born: November 16, 1900, Donetsk
[Died] September 19, 1962. Moscow Soviet playwright. His real name was Stukalov. He was born into a peasant family and grew up in poverty. Since 1922, he worked as a correspondent for the newspaper Pravda and wrote many reportage pieces. Based on real-life interviews, he produced plays on the theme of labor, such as Moi drug (1932) (My Friend) and Aristokraty (34) (The Aristocrats). In Chelovek s ruzh'ëm (37) (The Man with the Gun), which has Lenin as the main character, and Kremlëvskie kuranty (42) (The Big Clock in the Kremlin), he explored historical themes.
