Great Trek

The great inland migration of many Boers to the north in the first half of the 19th century, who fled the British rule of the Cape Colony in South Africa. As a result of the British occupation of the Cape in 1806, the Boers, who opposed the Anglicization policy, sent out three reconnaissance parties in 1834. Based on the reports of these parties, in 1835, a party led by Trichardt and Van Rensburg set out in a covered oxcart loaded with all their belongings, but was lost near the Limpopo River. In 1836, Potcheter and his party set out again, fighting the Ndebele on the way and settling north of the Vaal and Orange Rivers.
