Japanese: 保温折衷苗代 - ほおんせっちゅうなわしろ

A seedling bed in dry paddy fields, where heat-insulating materials are used to raise seedlings. Seeds are sown in raised beds made in plowed fields. After covering the soil enough to cover the seeds, burnt rice husks are placed over them, and then covered with oil paper or polyethylene film. Water is only put into the furrows, not on the bed surface. When the seeds have about two true leaves, the covering is removed and water is added up to the bed surface. This is a combination of a dry paddy seedling bed and a water-raised seedling bed, and is managed in the same way as a water-raised seedling bed thereafter. Seedlings are less susceptible to seedling rot and damping-off, and are also resistant to rice blast. This made it possible to cultivate rice early, significantly stabilizing rice cultivation, but in recent years it has become almost obsolete due to the spread of artificial seedling facilities.

乾田に保温資材を用いて育苗する苗代。代掻(しろか)きした田に揚床を作り播種する。種子が隠れるくらいに覆土した後，焼もみがらをかけ，さらにその上を油紙やポリエチレンフィルムで被覆する。水は溝にだけ入れ，床面には入れない。本葉２枚くらいのときに被覆を取り除き，床面まで水を張る。乾田苗代と水苗代を折衷したもので，以後水苗代と同様の管理をする。苗腐敗病や立枯病などが発生しにくく，いもち病にも強い苗ができる。これにより早期栽培が可能になり稲作は著しく安定したが，近年では人工的な育苗施設の普及にともないほとんど行われなくなった。
