Hoori-no-Mikoto

Japanese: 火遠理命 - ほおりのみこと

Also known as Hikohohodemi-no-Mikoto. In the Kojiki, he is Yamasachi from the Umisachi-Yamasachi tale. In the Nihon Shoki, he is the son of Ninigi-no-Mikoto, and is said to have been born when his father, suspecting that his mother, Konohana-no-Sakuya-hime, had become pregnant overnight, set fire to the delivery room. He married Toyotama-hime, the daughter of the sea god, and had Ugayafukiaezu-no-Mikoto. His grandson, Emperor Jimmu, also has the nickname Hikohohodemi.

彦火火出見尊(ひこほほでみのみこと)とも。《古事記》では海幸・山幸(うみさちやまさち)説話の山幸。《日本書紀》では瓊瓊杵(ににぎ)尊の子で，母の木花開耶(このはなのさくや)姫が一夜で妊娠したのを疑った父が産屋に火をかけ，その中から生まれたとする。海神の娘豊玉姫と結婚し，ウガヤフキアエズノミコトを得る。孫の神武天皇もヒコホホデミの別名をもつ。
