Born in 1761. Worked as a seaweed merchant in Edo. In 1821, he began seaweed farming in Hitomi Village, Kazusa (Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture) with the cooperation of village headman Hachiroemon and the villagers. He was successful two years later, but was not granted exclusive purchasing rights and was therefore unable to become a seaweed wholesaler. He passed away on September 11, 1831. He was 79 years old.
